Every year I check the CineVegas synopses in the film listings to see which films I think are the ones I
want to see.  This year the director/filmmaker of "Late Bloomer" sent me an email about his short film.
After looking at the young boy's photo and synopsis on
North Lake Films' Website, "I thought there is
something special about this film."  I decided to check out the short film...and am I glad I did.

Here is the synopsis of the film I read: In "Late Bloomer," one boy discovers that something strange is
happening in Miss Lovecraft's seventh grade sexual education class – something much darker than the
normal curriculum.

Now if that does not make you want to see this film, plus the young mans face...then what is wrong with
you!

The whole concept of the story was just hilarious.  So much work was put into this 13 min. film and it
shows in the end product.   The music added to the suspense and apprehension the boy and entire class
were feeling.  The chalkboard art and animation were great!  The voiceover for the boy really adds to the
suspense of the film.

You can see the anxiety in the boys face and with the voiceover getting more and more intense...it makes
the film more enjoyable and comical in some areas.  The young actors are very good.  They don't say
anything as it is all narrated but their expressions are priceless...especially Sam Borenzweig and
Courtney Merrit.  They showed a maturity you do not always see in teenage actors.

It would be great to see a feature film in the same genre.  This film is really something for parents to think
about when they are talking to their children about sex.   Maybe if you see the film, you can relate to what
the children are feeling, especially the horror this boy is feeling.

This group of filmmakers I feel have a chance at a career in filmmaking.  They remind me of some of the
young filmmakers I met years ago who went onto bigger and better things!

There were many great short films, but “Late Bloomer” is the one I would recommend this year!
