2004 CINEVEGAS FILM FESTIVAL
Tributes/Awards
The Half-Life Award was created to honor actors, directors and writers who have contributed greatly to
their profession and amassed an impressive body of work, which has elevated their craft at a young age.

The recipients of this award were: Holly Hunter, Robin Wright Penn, and Sean Penn.
Sean Penn -- The inaugural Half-Life Award was presented to Academy
Award winning actor Sean Penn, for his accomplishments in film. Penn’s
writing, directing, producing 1991 feature “The Indian Runner” was
screened at the festival.

I remember when I first saw him in “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” and
thought this young man has a great future in acting.  He has that certain
something.  He was one of the best parts of that movie.

When Sean Penn won the Best Actor at the 2004 Academy Awards® for
his portrayal of grief-stricken father Jimmy Markum in "Mystic River," I
was so happy as were his peers.  I have felt that he has been left out of
getting an "Oscar" for so many years.  He was amazing in "I Am Sam"
too.  He finally got his just awards with the "Oscar" for "Mystic River"
and it was so wonderful to see how surprised he was.

When Sean Penn received his award he said, "he wasn't sure what a
half a lifetime award meant, but he hopped he would be around to get
the second half award."

I was able to see the film Penn wrote, directed, and produced in 1991,
“The Indian Runner.”  It was a very good film.   The story about an angry
young man and how he distanced himself from his family was riveting.

and Robin Wright Penn
Robin Wright Penn -- The inaugural Half-Life Award was presented to actress Robin Wright Penn for her
accomplishments in film.  “She’s So Lovely” starring Robin Wright Penn and Sean Penn was screened at the
festival.

I was able to attend this tribute/award event.  I also did not get to view the movie "She's So Lovely," but I
have seen her in other films (such as "The Princess Bride" and "Forrest Gump") and she is a very good
actress.
Holly Hunter -- The inaugural Half-Life Award will be presented to Academy Award®
winning actress Holly Hunter for her accomplishments in film. Hunter’s Academy Award®
winning performance in the 1994 feature “The Piano” was remarkable.  The film was
screened at the festival.   Some of her other films were:  "Thirteen"  (she received an
"Oscar" nomination for this film, "Broadcast News," and "Raising Arizona."

Hunter has also won several Emmys.  She is one of our most unforgettable actresses and
is still going strong.
