Unfortunately we only had a few minutes to chat with each group of celebrities from the various film groups.
Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow ("Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow”) -- I asked Jude Law if he thought
people would think his new movie "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” would be looked at as an updated
version of "Flash Gordon." He said that it was the type of film that takes people back to the innocence of "Flash
Gordon" and "Buck Rogers" serials. A very pregnant Gwyneth Paltrow, answered a question about what she likes
to do in Las Vegas. She said she had just gotten in town, and had only seen the inside of her hotel room. But when
Jude Law was asked the same question Paltrow answered for him, she said "he took a ride over the Grand Canyon
in a helicopter, because he was a bad gambler."
Samuel L. Jackson ("Coach Carter") said he felt that coaches (in general) promote role models. He remembers a
coach from his high school days that was a role model for him. He was asked, “What type of movie would you like
to make?” He said, “A western, monster movie, comic book hero.”
Burt Reynolds, Seth Green and Dax Shepard for "Without a Paddle." Burt Reynolds was asked if this film was
like “Deliverance?” Reynolds said, “This is nothing like “Deliverance” it is a comedy.
"Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events." Liam Aiken and Emily Browning were asked if they had read
the books, they both said yes. Then someone asked if they thought it was like “Harry Potter?” Aiken said, “The
film is nothing like "Harry Potter" this movie is darker and this from the young boy. It is about three orphans. “
Michael Caine ("The Weather Man") -- Caine, was asked to comment on the remake of "What's It All About,
Alfie?" starring Jude Law. He thought it was a good idea and then told us about the remake of "Sleuth" that he
and Jude Law are going to do. He still likes doing movies, but they are a challenge more now. Caine is also signed
to play Nicole Kidman's father in "Bewitched."
When asked if any of the cast of "The Stepford Wives" members had seen the
original "Stepford Wives" film, they all said no. So the film should have a fresh
approached. It appears it may be a more comedic film with this cast.
During this press conference the celebrities all stood at microphones. So every
group had the same joke about their next number being...but with this group of
people they could have sung a song. Matthew Broderick made the joke about
our next number will be, and the media all clapped and said sing for us!
