| "Forever Plaid" at the Gold Coast When the show closed at the Flamingo in 2001, everyone hoped it would come back. It had played there from 1995 to 2001. When I heard it was back and close to where I live I was so happy. I have now seen this production 4 times; including the Christmas version "Plaid Tidings" which I hope is done again this year. Reaching a landmark 500 performances of a show is a great achievement in today's world of entertainment. This show still has surprises. To keep the show fresh they make small changes to dialogue, insert new sequences. Plus as with last nights show sometimes the cast working with a live audience in such a small room you have people that make comments. Cast members are quick to respond and when there is equipment malfunction they maintain their composure and make it look like it is part of the show. The audience last night was made up of media and VIP guests. At a certain time during the show the “Plaids” ask for a volunteer from the audience to come on stage and help them. Last night it was entertainer Susan Anton. She was gracious and went with how the cast was playing their part and it was very funny. The cast/creative team received a special acknowledgement from the US Congress ( a proclamation for excellence and merit, and for accomplishing 500 performances at the Gold Coast). Our State Congresswoman Shelley Berkeley presented them with the proclamation before the show. Congresswoman Berkley was dressed in a white blouse and pink poodle skirt. She quipped she had found it in the back of her closet as she never throws things away. This drew much laughter from the audience. Before the show they had a reception, to meet and greet the cast and crew of the show. Then after the show, they had cake and champagne in special drinking glasses marking the 500th performance. A good time was had by one and all. Due to the price (which is reasonable) this is still one of the best shows in Las Vegas! Since showtimes and ticket prices can change, please contact the Gold Coast Box Showroom at (702) 251-3574 or go to the Gold Coasts Website for more information. |
